Preview Roundups
November 20, 2016
Niagara at Rutgers 12:00 PM ET
It has been mostly smooth sailing so far for Rutgers, off to its first 3-0 start in seven seasons and having brought an ugly road losing streak to an end. The Scarlet Knights will look to make it four straight wins to start the season as they host Niagara on Sunday afternoon.
Missouri at Tulane 12:00 PM ET
Despite nearly knocking off a ranked team, Missouri needs a strong effort to avoid a last-place finish in the Tire Pros Invitational at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. on Sunday when they meet Tulane. The Tigers took No. 10 Xavier to overtime before losing in the first round Thursday and came out flat fewer than 24 hours later in a 70-55 setback against Davidson.
Yale at Virginia 1:00 PM ET
Fresh off another dominant defensive effort, No. 7 Virginia  will be looking for its 22nd straight home win when it faces undefeated Yale on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers, however, will be without perhaps their best player as forward Austin Nichols was dismissed from the team on Friday.
Stony Brook at Boston College 1:00 PM ET
Boston College has tasted victory for the first time in nearly 11 months and it hopes to put together a rare winning streak when it welcomes Stony Brook to Conte Forum on Sunday. A somewhat surprising loss to Nicholls in the season opener extended the Eagles' misery from last season, when they dropped their final 19 games.
Stetson at East Carolina 1:00 PM ET
East Carolina expects to get at least one player back in the lineup as it tries to rebound from its first loss of the season when it hosts Stetson in the Savannah Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates dressed only seven scholarship players in their setback at Charlotte last time out and were without leading scorer Caleb White.
New Hampshire at West Virginia 1:00 PM ET
West Virginia hasn't played New Hampshire since 2004-05 - five seasons before Bob Huggins arrived in Morgantown - but its coach knows what to expect when the No. 19 Mountaineers host the Wildcats on Sunday. Huggins and New Hampshire coach Bill Herrion matched wits six times between 2002-05 while Huggins was at Cincinnati and Herrion at East Carolina, so the contrast in styles will be no surprise.
Rhode Island at Duke 1:00 PM ET
The hits just keep coming for No.1 Duke, which watched yet another player go down to injury in its semifinal win at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off tournament in Uncasville, Conn. With perhaps only seven healthy players available to them, the Blue Devils will attempt to claim their 19th in-season tournament title under coach Mike Krzyzewski on Sunday when they meet 22nd-ranked Rhode Island in the championship game.
Wis.-Milwaukee at DePaul 1:30 PM ET
There is no question that Eli Cain is getting it done for DePaul, but now he needs a little help from his teammates beginning Sunday when the Blue Demons host Milwaukee. Cain has scored 20 or more points in both games this season, but unlike in the season opener, it wasn't enough to propel DePaul to victory Thursday against Rutgers in the Gavitt Games.
Manhattan at Temple 2:00 PM ET
If Temple's first three games are any indication, Sunday's home tilt with Manhattan will come down to the final minutes. The Owls' first three games have been decided by five, five and three points, but the last two have left Temple on the losing end of close contests.
Towson at Maryland 2:00 PM ET
There always is an adjustment period for freshmen in their first season of college basketball, but so far a heralded class of newcomers is fitting in just fine at Maryland. The No. 24-ranked Terrapins host Towson on Sunday, the next opportunity for Maryland’s new players to build upon a 3-0 start and continue what freshman guard Kevin Huerter said is an enjoyable experience.
The Citadel at Iowa St. 2:00 PM ET

The busiest person in the building might be the shot-clock operator when No. 23 Iowa State hosts The Citadel on Sunday. Expect a track meet when two of the fastest-paced and highest-scoring teams in the country match up for the non-conference contest.

Davidson at Arizona State 2:00 PM ET
Arizona State looks to follow up a strong performance on both ends of the court when it faces talented Davidson in the fifth-place game of the Tire Pros Invitational on Sunday at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Senior guard Torian Graham will try to finish off an impressive tournament after scoring 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the Sun Devils’ 80-71 victory over Tulane on Friday.
Cincinnati at Penn St. 3:00 PM ET
Cincinnati and Penn State each represented itself well in its first opportunity against a ranked opposition, but both fell short of the mark Saturday. One day later, the 25th-ranked Bearcats and Nittany Lions hope to rebound when they meet for only the second time - and first since 1973 - in the consolation game of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off tournament in Uncasville, Conn.
Texas-El Paso at Mississippi St. 3:30 PM ET
Two former adversaries in the Pac-12 Conference will meet up Sunday when Mississippi State and UTEP play in the fifth-place game at the Charleston Classic. UTEP coach Tim Floyd guided USC from 2005-2009, and Mississippi State coach Ben Howland led UCLA from 2003-2013, during which he owned a 7-3 edge over the Floyd-coached Trojans.
Detroit at Florida St. 5:00 PM ET
Florida State's offense is in high gear, and that is likely to continue as the Seminoles host defensively challenged Detroit on Sunday in an NIT Season Tip-off game. Florida State has scored 99 and 100 points in its last two games, wins over Iona and Winthrop, while the Titans have given up 93 points a game in losses to East Tennessee State (107) and Illinois (89).
Clemson at Oklahoma 5:00 PM ET
Both teams will try to leave the Sunshine State with a pair of victories in four days when Clemson faces Oklahoma on Sunday in the third-place game of the Tire Pros Invitational at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Clemson fell behind early and could not recover in an 83-77 loss to No. 10 Xavier and the Sooners coughed up an 18-point lead before losing 73-67 in overtime to Northern Iowa in Friday’s semifinals.

Texas Rio Grande Valley at Iowa 5:30 PM ET

Iowa looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it hosts Texas Rio Grande Valley in a second-round matchup in the Emerald Coast Classic on Sunday. The Vaqueros are undergoing a roster overhaul with 10 newcomers and still are looking for their initial win under first-year coach Lew Hill.

Colorado St. at Stanford 6:00 PM ET
After missing the final 22 games last season with a stress fracture in his leg, Stanford forward Reid Travis is quickly making up for lost time. The 6-foot-8 junior is averaging 21.7 points and 12.3 rebounds for the unbeaten Cardinal, who conclude a three-game homestand Sunday against Colorado State.
Hampton at Kansas St. 6:00 PM ET
Kansas State has held its first two opponents to an average 61.5 points and 38 percent shooting en route to two easy victories. Head coach Bruce Weber wants his team to continue to develop its defensive identity when its hosts Hampton in the first of two opening round games of the Barclays Classic on Sunday night.
St. Joseph's at Mississippi 6:00 PM ET
Deandre Burnett leads five double-digit scorers for Ole Miss, which takes on Saint Joseph's on Sunday in the semifinals of the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. The Rebels have averaged 90.3 points in their three season-opening victories, although their defense probably isn't going to be winning any awards this season.
Florida Gulf Coast at Michigan St 7:00 PM ET
No. 13 Michigan State needed some home cooking to get into the win column, and coach Tom Izzo's squad will try to follow that same recipe Sunday when it hosts FGCU. After dropping neutral-site games to Arizona and Kentucky, the Spartans routed Mississippi Valley State on Friday night behind the outstanding play of freshman Miles Bridges.
Xavier at Northern Iowa 7:00 PM ET
Junior J.P. Macura, often overlooked within Xavier’s outstanding backcourt trio, has taken center stage this week at the Tire Pros Invitational in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Macura looks to stay hot and lead the 10th-ranked Musketeers to the title in the four-day, three-game tournament when they meet Northern Iowa on Sunday night in the championship game.
Wake Forest at Charleston 7:00 PM ET
Wake Forest came up short of advancing to its first tournament final in eight seasons and the Demon Deacons will turn their attention to finishing the Charleston Classic on a high note when they meet host Charleston in Sunday's third-place game. Wake Forest ran into a red-hot Villanova team in the semifinals Friday and couldn't keep up with the No. 3 Wildcats in the 96-77 loss at TD Arena, but several bright spots still emerged.
Northern Arizona at Washington 8:00 PM ET
Washington fans should make a point to catch freshman guard Markelle Fultz while they can, because the 6-foot-4 phenom doesn’t figure to be in Seattle for long. Fultz has been as good as advertised while averaging 32.5 points and six assists on 67.7 percent shooting for the Huskies, who continue their four-game homestand Sunday against Northern Arizona.
N.C. State at Creighton 8:30 PM ET
Creighton made a major statement in the opening round of the Paradise Jam tournament in the Virgin Islands. The 20th-ranked Bluejays aim for an impressive encore performance Sunday when they face off against North Carolina State in the semifinal round.
Duquesne at Kentucky 9:00 PM ET
It is no surprise that second-ranked Kentucky is off to a fast start as it goes for a fourth straight win to begin the season and 40th consecutive victory at home when it hosts Duquesne on Sunday. What could be considered a bit unusual - and perhaps downright scary - is the perspective assistant coach Kenny Payne offered on the Wildcats after they demolished No. 13 Michigan State 69-48 on Tuesday.
Villanova at Central Florida 9:30 PM ET
Villanova will be trying for its fourth straight in-season tournament title when the No. 3 Wildcats face Central Florida in the championship game of the Charleston Classic on Sunday. Villanova, the defending national champion, played its best game of the season in a 96-77 semifinal win Friday against Wake Forest, getting career-high point totals from Josh Hart (30) and Mikal Bridges (19) while shooting 57.6 percent from the field and committing just six turnovers - two by guards.
Long Beach St. at UCLA 10:00 PM ET
Long Beach State and No. 16 UCLA have played diverse schedules so far this season, but they'll collide Sunday night at Pauley Pavilion in their annual non-conference game. Host UCLA has won its first three games by wide margins against Pacific, Cal State Northridge and San Diego, while the 49ers played their last three against unbeatens Wichita State, No. 6 North Carolina and No. 12 Louisville, losing each by a wide margin.
