Preview Roundups
November 18, 2016
Davidson at Missouri 11:30 AM ET
Missouri tries to rebound from a heartbreaking loss when it takes on Davidson in the consolation round of the Tire Pros Invitational at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Friday afternoon. The Tigers led by as much as 10 in the first half and had chances at the end of regulation and overtime before a foul with less than a second left allowed No. 10 Xavier to convert a free throw and win 83-82.
Clemson at Xavier 1:30 PM ET
Clemson scored its most points in a game since the 2009-10 season in the first round and needs another big performance Friday when it takes on No. 10 Xavier in the semifinals of the Tire Pros Invitational at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Tigers shot 51.7 percent from the field and drained nine 3-pointers to roll past Davidson 95-78 on Thursday – their highest total since scoring 102 against Winthrop on Nov. 23, 2009.
Villanova at Wake Forest 1:30 PM ET
Villanova survived a tough first-round game at the Charleston Classic and the semifinals don't figure to get any easier as the No. 3 Wildcats take on hot-shooting Wake Forest in Charleston, S.C. Villanova held off a gritty Western Michigan team in the first game of the tournament, getting 17 points off the bench from Fordham transfer Eric Paschall and 14 apiece from starters Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson, before Wake Forest followed with a blowout win against UTEP.
Mississippi at Oral Roberts 3:00 PM ET
Following a pair of close victories, Ole Miss hopes a change of scenery doesn't alter its early-season fortunes. The Rebels begin play in the Paradise Jam tournament Friday when they take on Oral Roberts at the Virgin Islands.
Pittsburgh at Marquette 4:30 PM ET
Marquette and Pittsburgh spent eight years together in the Big East from 2005-13 before the latter left for the ACC, leaving behind a rivalry between a pair of teams that combined for 15 NCAA Tournament appearances and 15 20-win seasons over that stretch. The schools renew acquaintances for the first time in nearly three years Friday in the consolation game of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden.
Arizona State at Tulane 5:00 PM ET
Arizona State hopes to find its previous form and shake off a rough outing when it takes on Tulane in the consolation round of the Tire Pros Invitational at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. on Friday. The Sun Devils, who started the season with two impressive victories, never could get going Thursday and Northern Iowa drained 13 from 3-point range en route to an 82-63 triumph in the first round.
Montana at N.C. State 6:00 PM ET
North Carolina State heads to the Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam tournament, an eight-team event that the Wolfpack kick off with a matchup against Montana. N.C. State is off to a 2-0 start but has not had a consistent lineup through two games and will not again on Friday.
South Carolina State at South Carolina 6:30 PM ET

After surviving some tough early tests, South Carolina faces what figures to be a less-stressful matchup when its hosts in-state foe South Carolina State on Friday as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational. It’s the final tuneup for the Gamecocks before a pair of challenging meetings with Michigan and Syracuse next week.

Southern California at Texas A&M 7:00 PM ET
USC knows it can't afford another slow start when it visits Texas A&M on Friday. The Trojans rallied from first-half deficits in their first two games, but the Aggies present a step up in competition.
Winthrop at Florida St. 7:00 PM ET
Florida State's athleticism, length and depth were too much for Iona on Tuesday night, but now Big South Conference preseason favorite Winthrop gets to test itself against the high-scoring Seminoles in an NIT Preseason Tip-off road game on Friday. The Seminoles rolled up 99 points in their 21-point victory, comfortably playing at the Gaels' preferred up-tempo pace.
Loyola-Maryland at Notre Dame 7:00 PM ET

Two games in, Notre Dame has yet to face a challenging foe on its non-conference schedule and won’t figure to get that Friday when it hosts Loyola Maryland. The Irish rolled through their first two games with an average victory margin of 34 points, while the Greyhounds have dropped two of their first three - both by five points or fewer.

Monmouth-NJ at Syracuse 7:00 PM ET
No. 18 Syracuse has yet to be tested winning its first two games by an average of 36 points against overmatched Patriot League foes. The Orange look to continue their fast start when they host upset-minded Monmouth in a Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational game on Friday.
Mississippi Valley State at Michigan St 7:00 PM ET
No. 13 Michigan State plays its first home game of the season still looking for its first victory when it hosts Mississippi Valley State in a non-conference contest Friday night. The Spartans dropped neutral site games to Arizona and Kentucky in the season’s first week, while the Delta Devils will be looking to avoid an 0-4 beginning to the campaign.
Georgia St at Purdue 7:00 PM ET
No. 15 Purdue looks to use its loss to the defending national champions as a learning experience when it hosts Georgia State as part of the regional round of the Cancun Challenge on Friday. The Boilermakers took third-ranked Villanova to the limit but ultimately came up short in the 79-76 loss, and they hope the experience in the Gavitt Tipoff Games will translate into victories further down the road.
Jacksonville St. at Texas Christian 7:00 PM ET
TCU head coach Jamie Dixon is still having trouble communicating with his players in his first week at his alma mater - but you wouldn't know it from the results. The Horned Frogs seek their third straight one-sided victory Friday night as they do battle with a visiting Jacksonville State team that has dropped back-to-back games since prevailing in its season opener.
Northern Iowa at Oklahoma 7:00 PM ET
Senior guard Jordan Woodard is the only significant scorer back from an Oklahoma team that reached the Final Four last season, and the Sooners are following his lead in the early going. Woodard looks to match or better a solid 22-point performance in the team's first-round victory when Oklahoma meets Northern Iowa on Friday in the semifinals of the Tire Pros Invitational at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Mississippi St. at Boise St. 7:00 PM ET
Mississippi State won't have much time to shake off a brutal loss in the first round of the Charleston Classic, as the Bulldogs take on Boise State in a consolation bracket game Friday. Mississippi State fell behind by 29 points in the first half Thursday against UCF before eventually losing a 86-61 decision.
Michigan at Southern Methodist 7:00 PM ET
Michigan got a first-hand look last year at how good of a fit Tim Jankovich could be if he ever took over for Larry Brown at SMU, which handed the Wolverines their most lopsided loss of the 2015-16 campaign. The Mustangs look to remain perfect under Jankovich on Friday when they square off against Michigan in the championship game of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden.
Texas-Arlington at Arkansas 8:00 PM ET
Arkansas is off to a 2-0 start and has scored 90-plus points in its first two games for the first time in 20 years and only the sixth time in program history. That's plenty to shout about for the Razorbacks, who conclude a season-opening three-game homestand against Texas-Arlington on Friday night, but apparently the atmosphere at Bud Walton Arena has been pretty ho-hum so far about it.
North Florida at Louisiana State 8:00 PM ET
Antonio Blakeney is not Ben Simmons, but there's no doubt that the sophomore guard is LSU's most dominant player. Blakeney hopes to continue his hot start when the Tigers host North Florida on Friday and already shows signs that he is capable of leading his team back to the NCAA Tournament after a one-year hiatus.
Norfolk State at Vanderbilt 8:00 PM ET
With the first victory of the Bryce Drew era in the books, Vanderbilt can concentrate on fine tuning its game, beginning with Friday's Las Vegas Invitational contest against visiting Norfolk State. The Commodores beat Belmont at its own game - 3-point shooting - and freshman Payton Willis came through in the clutch much to the delight of Drew, whose team was thoroughly beaten by Marquette in his first game as coach.
Ohio at Georgia Tech 8:00 PM ET
Suffice to say Georgia Tech center Ben Lammers is off to a flying start to the new season, while making quite an impression on his new head coach. Lammers and the Yellow Jackets host Ohio on Friday and the 6-10 junior enters the contest after the best game of his career in Monday’s victory over Southern, recording nine blocked shots – two shy of the school record – to go with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Detroit at Illinois 8:00 PM ET
Illinois continues its string of five straight games at home to start the season when it hosts Detroit on Friday night in a NIT Season Tip-Off preliminary tournament game. The Illini are perfect so far, showing a lot of firepower, especially in a 47-point win over McKendree in their last outing.
Coppin St. at Utah 8:00 PM ET

Utah continues its season-opening three-games-in-six-day stretch Friday night by hosting winless Coppin State. And after opening with a pair of lopsided wins against overmatched visiting Division II foes, the Utes will be at another huge advantage as the Baltimore-based Eagles will be playing on the third night of a brutal back-to-back-to-back itinerary tha

Siena at Kansas 8:00 PM ET
A season-opening eight-day span that began with a disappointing 103-99 overtime loss to Indiana in sunny Honolulu followed by an instant classic 77-75 upset of No. 1 Duke in famed Madison Square Garden on Tuesday concludes back home Friday night in Lawrence, Kan., when No. 8 Kansas hosts Siena in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. That's nearly 12,000 miles of travel for those of you keeping score at home.
Florida Gulf Coast at Baylor 8:00 PM ET
Baylor started the year unranked but might move into the Top 25 after dismantling No. 4 Oregon earlier this week. The Bears know that big win won't guarantee another when they host FGCU on Friday night.
Bryant at Gonzaga 8:30 PM ET
Making new pieces fit cohesively into a full-fledged basketball team seems to be Gonzaga's thing and the No. 14 Bulldogs look for their third straight victory when they host the Bryant Bulldogs on Friday. Gonzaga is molding three transfers into a revamped lineup and Monday's 69-48 dismantling of a typically good San Diego State team was a solid development for the Zags.
Washington St. at Creighton 8:30 PM ET
A balanced scoring attack and some legitimate 3-point threats have No. 20 Creighton feeling good heading into Friday's affair with Washington State. This game marks the final first-round matchup at the Paradise Jam, an eight-team tournament in the Virgin Islands that also features Ole Miss, North Carolina State and Saint Joseph's.
Ball St. at Alabama 9:00 PM ET
Alabama head coach Avery Johnson didn't get the revenge victory he was seeking - but he'll gladly settle for a teaching opportunity. Johnson and the Crimson Tide look for their first victory of the season Friday night as they host Ball State, which is coming off a gut-wrenching overtime loss to Indiana State.
St. John's at Minnesota 9:00 PM ET
Off to a 2-0 start, St. John's departs the cupcake portion of its season when it visits undefeated Minnesota in the Gavitt Games on Friday night. The revamped Red Storm, who lost 21 of their final 22 games last season, have hit 11 3-pointers in each of their first two games on the season.
Central Florida at Charleston 9:30 PM ET
Charleston faces a tall task - literally - when the tournament host attempts to slow down 7-6 center Tacko Fall and Central Florida in the semifinals of the Charleston Classic on Friday. Fall, the tallest player in college basketball, had a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds in the Knights’ 86-61 victory over Mississippi State on Thursday in the first round.
Oregon St. at Nevada 10:00 PM ET
Oregon State looks to bounce back from a stunning loss to Lamar on Friday as the Beavers visit Nevada, which was picked to finish second in the Mountain West Conference. After opening with two convincing wins, Oregon State committed 27 turnovers and suffered a 63-60 home loss to the undersized Cardinals on Wednesday.
Sacred Heart at Arizona 10:00 PM ET
Arizona may only have seven scholarship players available for Friday’s game against visiting Sacred Heart, but there’s no reason to feel sorry for the ninth-ranked Wildcats. Coach Sean Miller’s squad still figures to have enough weapons to get past the Pioneers, who were picked to finish eighth in the Northeast Conference preseason poll.
North Carolina at Hawaii 11:59 PM ET
North Carolina headlines the Maui Invitational that begins Monday, but the No. 6 Tar Heels decided to leave for their trip to the Islands early and play Hawaii on Friday at 8 p.m. local time (1 a.m. ET on Saturday). North Carolina's traveling party made the long flight Wednesday after routing Long Beach State 93-67 on Tuesday, improving to 3-0 while lowering its average victory margin to 28.7 points.
