Preview Roundups
January 29, 2017
Michigan at Michigan St 1:00 PM ET
An in-state rivalry takes on even more importance with Michigan visiting Michigan State Sunday in a Big Ten matchup between two teams flirting with missing the Big Dance. The Wolverines come in hot, though, having won three of four, including a 30-point shellacking of Indiana on Thursday, while the Spartans are looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
Virginia at Villanova 1:00 PM ET
Following a tough loss, Villanova faces another challenging foe Sunday against visiting Virginia. The second-ranked Wildcats had won five straight before their late collapse against Marquette, while the 13th-ranked Cavaliers enter with a terrific defense, as usual.
N.C. State at Louisville 1:00 PM ET
Just as North Carolina State's Dennis Smith Jr. is emerging as perhaps the most dominant player in the ACC, Louisville is running low on options who could potentially slow him down. Faced with the possibility of being without their top two point guards for at least another week, the 14th-ranked Cardinals hope they can be one of the few teams to bottle up the impressive freshman floor general Sunday when they host the Wolfpack.
Washington St. at Arizona State 2:00 PM ET
Arizona State is scoring at a rate not seen at the school in nearly 20 years and the Sun Devils will try to use that to their advantage Sunday when they host Washington State in a Pac-12 game. Arizona State is third in the conference at 81.6 points per game, its highest scoring output since averaging 84.5 for the 1997-98 season, but the extra offense hasn't translated into more wins.
Washington at Arizona 3:30 PM ET
With the buzz surrounding Arizona guard Allonzo Trier’s return, it’s easy to overlook the impact that teammate Lauri Markkanen has made on the program. Markkanen looks to strengthen his case as the nation’s top freshman on Sunday as the ninth-ranked Wildcats host struggling Washington, which has dropped four of its last five games.
South Florida at Cincinnati 4:00 PM ET
No. 19 Cincinnati will attempt to run its winning streak to 12 games while remaining unbeaten in American Athletic Conference play when its hosts last-place South Florida on Sunday. The Bearcats rallied for an emotional 86-78 win on Thursday over No. 23 Xavier to end a three-game losing streak against their city rival while the Bulls are coming off an 81-60 loss to Connecticut and have dropped eight games in a row.
Purdue at Nebraska 4:30 PM ET
Caleb Swanigan has manhandled the majority of defenses he has faced this season when they have been at full health, so it is hardly a surprise the Purdue sophomore continued to dominate against a shorthanded frontcourt his last time out. The 20th-ranked Boilermakers eye their fourth straight win and first 7-2 start in Big Ten play since the 2007-08 season Sunday when they visit struggling Nebraska.
Xavier at St. John's 6:00 PM ET
A once-promising season for Xavier is slipping away at a rapid pace, although the 22nd-ranked Musketeers have a good chance to get back into the win column Sunday. St. John's, which welcomes Xavier to New York for this Big East contest, has won two of three but has been highly inconsistent in league play.
Indiana at Northwestern 6:30 PM ET
After getting off to a 1-2 start in Big Ten play, Northwestern has reeled off five straight wins to close to within one game lead of the conference lead. The Wildcats will look to maintain that momentum Sunday when they host an Indiana team trying to bounce back from its most lopsided loss (90-60 at Michigan) in nearly seven years.

Boston College at Virginia Tech 6:30 PM ET
It has been a rough stretch in recent years for Boston College, but a couple of close losses to then-No. 9 North Carolina and Miami (Fla.) have given the Eagles reason for hope. Boston College tries to snap a four-game losing streak Sunday when it visits Virginia Tech.
Stanford at California 8:30 PM ET

After eight days off for both teams, California and Stanford figure to be well-rested Sunday when they renew their rivalry at Haas Pavilion. Star forward Ivan Rabb is averaging 15.1 points and a league-best 10.6 rebounds for Cal, which hits the midpoint of the Pac-12 season needing a strong finish to bolster its +chances for an NCAA Tournament berth.
