Where: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, Iowa
Temperature: 67°

Keith Duncan kicked four field goals, including the go-ahead boot inside the final five minutes, to lead the No. 19 Iowa Hawkeyes to an 18-17 win over the host Iowa State Cyclones in a game delayed twice by lightning in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday.

After Duncan's 39-yard kick gave Iowa the lead at 4:51 -- the third lead change of the fourth quarter -- the Hawkeyes forced a turnover on downs and recovered a muffed punt at 1:29 to preserve the win.

Iowa's Nate Stanley rushed for a score and passed for 201 yards for Iowa (3-0), which won for the fifth straight time and the sixth in seven games over its in-state rival, improving to 45-22 in the series.

Cyclones quarterback Brock Purdy finished 24 of 34 for 276 yards and a score, and La'Michael Pettway and Tarique Milton caught TD passes for the Cyclones (1-1).

Duncan booted a 25-yarder for a 3-0 lead after a drive that took 7:23 to open the first quarter, but lightning quickly surrounded Jack Trice Stadium to force a 49-minute delay after just 15 plays had taken place.

On a double-pass play after play resumed, wide receiver Deshaunte Jones took a swing lateral from Purdy and found Pettway wide open after the Iowa defensive backs rolled up to pursue Jones. The touchdown went 51 yards for a 7-3 lead at 5:44.

A second lightning delay occurred with 13:24 to play in the first half, and both squads returned to their locker rooms for a lengthier wait.

When the 67th meeting between the rivals resumed, the Cyclones drove inside the red zone, but Purdy lost a fumble, and Iowa capitalized to produce another Duncan field goal.

Stanley led Iowa on a 12-play, 59-yard drive that ended with the junior kicker nailing a 40-yarder on the delay-filled half's final play, to trim the deficit to 7-6.

Purdy made it 14-6 on the second play from scrimmage after the break, firing a long post pass to Milton for a 73-yard score.

The Cyclones held steady on defense, forcing a 42-yard field goal by Duncan with 2:15 left in the third to keep a 14-9 edge.

Stanley's 1-yard sneak with 12:10 left gave Iowa a 15-14 lead, but the visitors failed on a 2-point conversion.

Connor Assalley answered by drilling a 26-yard field goal from the right hash for a 17-15 Iowa State lead with 7:46 left before Duncan's eventual game-winner.
