No. 14 Kansas State 31, No. 11 Oklahoma 30: Jake Waters threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for a score as the visiting Wildcats edged the Sooners.

Waters was 15-for-23 for 225 yards through the air and found Tyler Lockett and Glenn Gronkowski with touchdown passes for Kansas State (5-1, 3-0 Big 12). Danzel McDaniel returned an interception for a score and the Wildcats blocked a key extra-point attempt in the fourth quarter to help keep the team undefeated in conference play.

Trevor Knight went 26-for-32 for 318 yards, three TDs and an interception for Oklahoma (5-2, 2-2), which was let down by kicker Michael Hunnicutt. Samaje Perine ran for 89 yards and a score and Sterling Shepard matched a school record with 15 catches for 197 yards but Hunnicutt missed a pair of short field goals wide left, including a 19-yard try that would have put the Sooners on top in the fourth quarter.

Knight found tight end Blake Bell for a 4-yard TD pass to knot it at 24 with 9:32 left in the third quarter, but Waters marched Kansas State right back down and rushed in for a 4-yard score. Knight and Durron Neal hooked up for a 9-yard score with 10:35 to play, but Hunnicutt’s point-after attempt was blocked and his 19-yard miss came on the next possession before the Wildcats ran out the clock.

Perine got Oklahoma on the board with a 2-yard burst but Kansas State tied it when Waters faked a keeper and flipped it over the middle to Gronkowski, who rumbled 62 yards for a TD, and took its first lead when Knight tried a quick pass to the outside from his own end zone and instead had it intercepted by McDaniel and returned for a 5-yard score. Shepard’s 47-yard TD tied it up, but Lockett hauled in a 9-yard score to help send Kansas State into the locker room up 21-17.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Shepard landed on a camera lens just off the back corner of the end zone attempting to make a TD catch in the second quarter and sat out the rest of the half before returning and racking up double-digit catches for the first time in his career. … Oklahoma FB Aaron Ripkowski was ejected on the first series for targeting. … Waters took a hard hit on a running play on the opening drive of the third quarter when a defender landed on his right shoulder and went to the locker room before returning for the next series.
