Kellen Moore matched his career-high with five touchdown passes and became the winningest quarterback in college football history as No. 5 Boise State defeated host Nevada-Las Vegas 48-21 on Saturday.

Moore improved to 46-2 as a starter to surpass the career victories record held by former Texas standout Colt McCoy (2006-09) as Boise State (8-0, 3-0 Mountain West) remained in the national championship picture.

The Broncos received a surprising fight from inspired UNLV (2-6, 1-2) and led by only seven at halftime. But Boise State scored the first 27 points of the second half with D.J. Harper’s 36-yard scoring run turning it into a rout at 41-14 with 12:04 remaining.

The five-touchdown game was the fifth of Moore’s career. He threw second-half touchdowns of 51 and 5 yards to Tyler Shoemaker, and teamed up twice with Matt Miller in the first half on scoring passes of 30 and 5 yards. Miller’s second score gave Boise State a 21-14 advantage 25 seconds before intermission.

Harper rushed for 109 yards on 13 carries while filling in for Doug Martin, who left in the first half with an ankle injury.

Moore, who passed for 219 yards, hit Gabe Linehan on a 2-yard scoring pass with 9:26 left in the first quarter. UNLV answered with Dionza Bradford’s 13-yard scoring run.

After the Broncos went up 14-7 on Miller’s first touchdown catch, UNLV knotted the score when Michael Johnson scored on a 33-yard pass from Caleb Herring.
