Dave Teggart made three field goals and Connecticut's defense forced four turnovers, returning one for a touchdown, in a 16-10 victory over visiting South Florida on Saturday.

Byron Jones scooped up a Darrell Scott fumble and ran 10 yards for a score to give the Huskies (3-4, 1-1 Big East) the lead for good with 7:06 left in the third quarter. The Huskies held the Bulls (4-2, 0-2), who were averaging more than 500 yards of offense coming into the game, to 75 yards in the first half and 339 for the game.

Huskies’ freshman running back Lyle McCombs had 130 yards rushing on 32 carries, his fourth 100-yard effort of the season.

South Florida, which has lost two straight, drove 75 yards to open the second half and took a 10-6 lead on quarterback B.J. Daniels’ 22-yard run. But Daniels had two interceptions and a fumble, and the Bulls were 3-for-11 on third-down conversions.

South Florida drove to the UConn 24 with less than three minutes left, but turned the ball over on downs.

Teggart, who has three or more field goals in a game 10 times in his career, made a 46-yarder with 9 seconds left in the second quarter to give UConn a 6-3 halftime lead.
