Landry Jones passed for 433 yards and three touchdowns and No. 7 Oklahoma ripped through the Connecticut defense en route to a 48-20 victory in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday night.

The Sooners (12-2) finished with 524 yards of total offense and were never seriously threatened after jumping out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead. The Sooners struck early on Jones’ 8-yard touchdown pass to James Hanna and a 3-yard touchdown run by DeMarco Murray.

Connecticut (8-5) cut the lead to 14-7 on Dwayne Gratz’s 46-yard interception return with 12:58 left in the first half before Jimmy Stevens kicked field goals of 41 and 24 yards for the Sooners to make it 20-7.

Dave Teggart’s 37-yard field goal with 26 seconds left in the first half pulled the Huskies within 20-10, but Oklahoma responded when Jones threw a 59-yard touchdown to Cameron Kenney and a Jamell Fleming 55-yard interception return for a touchdown made it 34-10 with 9:44 left in the third quarter.

Robbie Frey’s 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown after Fleming’s interception return brought UConn within 34-17, and Teggart’s 38-yard field goal with 5:04 left in the third made it 34-20.

Jones, who finished 35-of-50 passing, hit Ryan Broyles with a 5-yard touchdown pass with 7:49 left in the fourth quarter, and Tony Jefferson returned an interception 21 yards for a touchdown with 2:40 to go for Oklahoma.
