The most dominant program in the ACC over the last five years showed it wasn’t ready to relinquish top billing anytime soon.

Virginia Tech stunned host N.C. State on Saturday, rallying from 17 points down at one point to upend the Wolfpack, 41-30, at Carter-Finley Stadium. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor capped the Hokies’ memorable come-from-behind victory with his game-winning 39-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jarrett Boykin with 1:27 remaining.

With his team trailing 30-27, Boykin caught the quick slant and race in the rest of the way for the game-winning score with 1:27 remaining after Wolfpack safety Brandon Bishop whiffed on the tackle. The scoring play was Taylor’s third touchdown pass of the day and put Virginia Tech ahead for good at 34-30.

The ‘Pack had one last chance, but quarterback Russell Wilson’s third interception of the afternoon dashed those hopes and assured their first loss of the season. Wilson entered the game having thrown just one interception all season.

The Hokies, who trailed 17-0 at one point in the second period, added a late Darren Evans touchdown with under a minute left to close the game’s scoring and seal their third consecutive victory.
