LSU's struggling offense picked up where it left off last week, but once again the No. 15 Tigers managed a victory. This time the victim was Vanderbilt, which made the Tigers work hard for a while before fading in an eventual 27-3 rout.

Saturday night's SEC opener for the teams came a week after LSU (2-0) went scoreless in the second half of a 30-24 victory over North Carolina.

While LSU was sluggish at the start. Vandy (0-2) had even more trouble moving the ball. LSU outgained Vandy 402 yards to 104 for the game.

In the first half, LSU netted 137 yards and held Vanderbilt to 30 while there were 12 total punts. LSU led 10-0 at that point, scoring in the second quarter on a 30-yard run by Russell Shepard, who capped a 12-play, 81-yard drive; and a 36-yard field goal by Josh Jasper.

Vandy's Ryan Fowler kicked a 23-yard field goal in the third quarter, and Jasper kicked one from 23 yards early in the fourth. LSU added a touchdown on a 6-yard run by Alfred Blue following a fumble recovery at the Vanderbilt 26. Stevan Ridley ran 65 yards for LSU's last touchdown. Ridley finished with 159 yards on 17 carries.

LSU got to the Vanderbilt quarterback five times, with three of those sacks by tackle Drake Nevis.

It was LSU's seventh straight win over Vanderbilt, which has lost nine straight since beating Rice last September.
