Jarek Broussard rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown, freshman quarterback Brendon Lewis was 10-for-15 passing for 102 yards and another score, and Colorado beat Northern Colorado 35-7 on Friday night in Boulder, Colo.

Ashaad Clayton, Alex Fontenot and Deion Smith had a rushing touchdown each and Montana Lemonious-Craig had a TD reception for the Buffaloes (1-0).

Dylan McCaffrey was 24-for-41 passing for 236 yards and a touchdown, Kassidy Woods had four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown and Tru Wilson had seven receptions for 64 yards for the Bears (0-1).

After a scoreless first quarter, the Buffaloes broke through early in the second when they got the ball at the Bears 28 after an unsportsmanlike penalty on a punt late in the first quarter. The drive appeared to stall on an incomplete pass on third-and-20, but another unsportsmanlike call gave Colorado the ball at the 23.

Broussard capped the drive with a 1-yard TD run to make it ahead 7-0 with 13:51 left in the second quarter.

The Buffaloes struck again later in the second. Broussard broke off a 30-yard run to set up Colorado at the Bears 20, and two plays later Lewis found Lemonious-Craig in the end zone with 7:02 left in the half to make it 14-0.

UNC drove to the Colorado 15 with 2:20 left in the half, but McCaffrey overthrew his receiver near the goal line and Mekhi Blackmon intercepted it in the end zone.

Buffaloes freshman kicker Cole Becker hit the crossbar on a 53-yard field goal attempt on the first drive of the second half. Colorado cashed in on its next possession, going 90 yards on 16 plays to go ahead 21-0 on Fontenot's 3-yard TD run.

The Bears finally broke through when McCaffrey connected with Woods on a 34-yard TD pass on the last play of the third quarter. The Buffaloes answered on the ensuing drive when Clayton scored on a 1-yard run with 12:29 left.

Smith put it away with a 5-yard TD run with 7:27 remaining.
