Chris Naggar kicked a 43-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining to give Southern Methodist a 30-27 win over No. 25 Memphis in an American Athletic Conference contest on Saturday at Dallas.

With the game tied 27-27, Memphis drove down to the SMU 39-yard line with under two minutes left, but SMU defensive lineman Junior Aho stripped Memphis quarterback Brady White of the football, and it was recovered by SMU's Elijah Chatman.

SMU (4-0, 1-0 AAC) then drove down the field and put Naggar in position to win the game.

Quarterback Shane Buechele went 32-of-45 passing for 474 yards and three touchdowns and wideout Reggie Roberson caught five passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game in the third quarter with a knee injury for the Mustangs.

White went 29-of-42 passing for 380 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions for Memphis (1-1, 0-1), which played its first game in 28 days due to COVID-19 cases that forced the pausing of team activities.

After the teams traded field goals to start the game, SMU took a 10-3 lead on 3-yard touchdown pass from Buechele to wideout Danny Gray.

The Mustangs then went up 17-3 with 1:07 left in the first quarter on a 70-yard touchdown pass from Buechele to Roberson.

Buechele then hooked up with Roberson for another long touchdown pass, this time an 85-yard scoring play to give the Mustangs a 24-3 lead with 9:51 remaining in the second quarter.

Memphis cut its deficit to 24-10 with 7:16 left in the second quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from White to wideout Calvin Austin.

The Tigers then pulled within a touchdown at 24-17 with 3:30 left until halftime on a 27-yard touchdown pass from White to tight end Sean Dykes.

After SMU took a 27-20 lead on a 25-year-old field goal by Naggar, Memphis tied the game at 27-27 with 2:53 left in the third quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass from White to receiver Tahj Washington.
