Oklahoma State's Malcolm Rodriguez returned an interception 26 yards for the game-winning score midway through the fourth quarter as the Cowboys upset No. 23 Iowa State 34-27 on homecoming Saturday in Ames, Iowa.

With the Big 12 contest tied 27-27, the defensive back stepped in front of a Brock Purdy pass and dashed in untouched for the touchdown with 6:47 to play after the host Cyclones rallied from a 21-10 deficit to even the score in the fourth quarter.

After ISU's defense forced a turnover on downs with 2:43 remaining, linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga intercepted Purdy, and Tre Sterling picked off Purdy in the final seconds to lock down the win.

Quarterback Spencer Sanders was 16 of 24 for 249 yards, two scores and an interception, and Tylan Wallace caught eight passes for 131 yards and a score for the Cowboys (5-3, 2-3).

Chuba Hubbard, the nation's leading rusher, gained 116 yards on 22 carries with a long TD run. It was the 10th 100-yard game in the last 12 starts for the sophomore.

Purdy finished with a school-record 39 completions in 62 attempts for 382 yards, a score and three interceptions. Running back Breece Hall scored two touchdowns for ISU (5-3, 3-2).

Sanders fired a quick pass to Wallace in the flats, and the receiver raced 71 yards, tossing a pair of stiff-arms to the last two Cyclone defenders as he tight-roped the sideline to open the scoring with 6:26 left in the first quarter.

Purdy turned to one of his favorite targets, tight end Charlie Kolar, for an 18-yard score on the second play of the second quarter to tie it 7-7.

But Sanders answered with his second score just two minutes later on a play similar to the one that sprung Wallace. This time it was a 50-yarder to Braydon Johnson as Oklahoma State went up 14-7.

After Connor Assalley's 32-yard field goal made it 14-10, Hubbard boosted the Cowboys' lead to 21-10 with a 65-yard sprint straight up the middle for his 16th rushing touchdown.

Assalley connected from 29 yards to end the half and make the score 21-13, barely two minutes after missing wide left from 39 yards.

Hall's first touchdown run at 10:18 cut the Cyclones' deficit to 21-20, but OSU's Matt Ammendola drilled 49- and 40-yard field goals for a 27-20 lead just seconds into the fourth quarter.

Ball, a true freshman, added his second score with 9:06 remaining to tie it at 27-27.

But OSU's defense, which gave up huge plays last week in a loss to Baylor, stepped up with the three fourth-quarter interceptions to snap the Cowboys' two-game losing streak.
