Senior quarterback Ian Book completed 16 of 20 passes for 261 yards and five touchdowns, and No. 9 Notre Dame cruised to a 52-0 win over Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Ind.
Chase Claypool caught two touchdown passes for Notre Dame (4-1), which won its 14th home game in a row. Tommy Tremble, Cole Kmet, Javon McKinley and Avery Davis caught one touchdown apiece, and C'Bo Flemister added a rushing touchdown.
Bowling Green (1-4) dropped its fourth consecutive game. The Falcons were outgained 573-228 in the first meeting between the programs.
McKinley led Notre Dame with five receptions for 104 yards to go along with his score. Tony Jones Jr. paced the Fighting Irish's ground attack with seven carries for 102 yards, an average of 14.6 yards per carry.
Grant Loy completed 13 of 25 passes for 106 yards and an interception for Bowling Green. His top target was Quintin Morris, who finished with 10 catches for 92 yards.
Notre Dame opened the scoring on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Book to Tremble with 9:32 remaining in the first quarter. It was the second touchdown reception of the season for Tremble, a sophomore tight end from Georgia.
The Fighting Irish made it 14-0 less than three minutes later when Book hit tight end Kmet for a 21-yard touchdown.
Claypool hauled in Book's third touchdown pass of the first quarter to push the lead to 21-0. The senior wideout sprinted past the secondary and hauled in a pass in the center of the end zone for a 34-yard touchdown.
In the second quarter, Notre Dame went up 28-0 on Claypool's second touchdown catch of the game and his fourth in five games. He scored on an 8-yard pass to cap off a four-play, 53-yard drive.
Bowling Green's long afternoon continued as Book connected with McKinley for a 25-yard touchdown to make it 35-0 before the half.
A 27-yard field goal by Jonathan Doerer increased Notre Dame's lead to 38-0 midway through the third quarter.
Backup quarterback Phil Jurkovec replaced Book late in the third quarter and led a six-play, 75-yard drive that culminated with his 7-yard touchdown pass to Davis.
Flemister finished the scoring on a 1-yard rush with 6:56 left in the fourth quarter.
