After a 1-2 start to the season, Florida State may be righting the ship after a 31-13 win against North Carolina State on Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.
Seminoles quarterback Alex Hornibrook, who was starting in place of injured starter James Blackman, led Florida State to a win for the second week in a row -- throwing for 316 yards and three touchdowns.
Hornibrook came in for Blackman last week and led the Seminoles (3-2, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) to a comeback win against Louisville.
Two of those touchdown throws went to Florida State receiver Tamorrion Terry, who finished with five catches for 77 yards and two scores. Seminoles running back Cam Akers churned out 83 yards and one touchdown in the win, while defensive back Cyrus Fagan paced the team's defense with 10 tackles.
Fagan also recovered a fumble, as did linebacker Emmett Rice.
The Seminoles' leading receiver was Ontaria Wilson with four grabs for 91 yards, and he also caught Hornibrook's other touchdown pass from 40 yards out just before halftime to give Florida State a 17-6 lead at the break -- a lead they wouldn't give back this time after squandering advantages in previous games this season.
Saturday marked Florida State's first back-to-back ACC wins since 2016.
NC State (3-2, 0-1) played and lost its first conference game of the season. Three quarterbacks split time in the loss -- Bailey Hockman, Matthew McKay and Devin Leary -- but none were very effective. Hockman, a former Florida State transfer, saw the most action, going 21-of-40 for 208 yards and one touchdown throw to receiver Emeka Emezie.
No Wolfpack running back cracked 100 yards as Jordan Houston finished as the leading rusher with nine carries for 61 yards.
Florida State is on a bye next week, but will return to the field Oct. 12 to take on No. 1 Clemson in Death Valley.
NC State is also off next week, although it will try to rebound from Saturday's loss on Thursday, Oct. 10, at home against Syracuse.
