Baylor 63, Texas-San Antonio 14
When: 4:00 PM ET, Saturday, September 7, 2019
Where: McLane Stadium, Waco, Texas
Temperature: 99°
Head Official: David Alvarez
Attendance: 40274

Quarterback Charlie Brewer threw for three touchdowns, all to wide receiver Denzel Mims, and ran for a fourth in playing just the first half as the host Baylor Bears crushed the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners 63-14 on Saturday in Waco, Texas.

Runs of 55 and 22 yards by running back Trestan Ebner set up Brewer's first two scoring tosses. Grayland Arnold returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown, as the Bears jumped to a 28-0 lead midway through the second quarter and led 35-0 at halftime.

On a hot day, with a game-time temperature of 101 degrees and a reported 167 on McLane Stadium's synthetic turf, Baylor reserve quarterback Gerry Bohanon came on with a burst in the third quarter, rushing for 93 yards on seven carries and a touchdown.

Baylor (2-0) finished with 546 total yards (368 on the ground) to 266 for the Roadrunners (1-1). The disparity was greater in the first half, 295-79, as the Bears scored on four of their five possessions before intermission.

Brewer -- who also threw for three touchdowns despite leaving early in the second half in a season-opening 56-17 rout of Stephen F. Austin -- finished with 163 yards on 12-of-16 passing Saturday. Seven completions went to Mims for 101 yards.

Freshman running back Sincere McCormick rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns for UTSA.

McCormick's first score, on a 2-yard run, came late in the third quarter when the Roadrunners entered Baylor territory for only the second time. The touchdown capped a 79-yard drive that nearly matched UTSA's total yards to that point (88).

After a Baylor punt, McCormick broke away for a 54-yard touchdown run.

Roadrunners quarterback Frank Harris, who threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns in an easy win over Incarnate Word to open the season, finished with 93 yards on 15-of-24 passing.

Harris was sacked three times, with 1 1/2 sacks credited to Clay Johnston and another to Blake Lynch.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Baylor safety JT Woods recovered a fumbled punt on the UTSA 15-yard line, and the Bears scored two plays later, on an end-around by wide receiver Chris Platt.

Baylor freshman running back Qualan Jones broke tackles on a 61-yard scoring run with 5:33 left.
