Barnett scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 19-yard run with 5:08 remaining. The touchdown completed a 10-play, 88-yard drive that began when South Florida safety Bentlee Sanders stripped the ball from Georgia Tech running back Qua Searcy.
South Florida clinched the victory when Nico Sawtelle intercepted TaQuon Marshall's pass with 3:47. That set up an insurance touchdown, a 5-yard run by Barnett, with 2:13 left.

South Florida had a 21-17 at halftime, thanks to a pair of kickoff returns that Terrence Horne returned for scores. Horne tied the NCAA for most kickoff returns for touchdowns in a game, a feat accomplished by 24 others, according to the school.
After Georgia Tech opened with Brenton King's 35-yard field goal, Horne returned a kick for a 98-yard touchdown.

Georgia Tech countered with an 81-yard scoring play, with Marshall hooking up with running back Clinton Lynch for a long touchdown pass.
South Florida then drove 11 plays for a touchdown to take the lead. Barnett hit Darnell Salomon for an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Georgia Tech lost 1,000-yard rusher KirVonte Benson to a lower body injury in the first quarter. He left with 5:58 remaining and did not return. Two Georgia Tech defensive starters were ejected for targeting - cornerback Tariq Carpenter and inside linebacker David Curry.
