Louisiana Tech, despite a pair of missed field goals by Kyle Fischer, still went into halftime with a 7-3 lead thanks to a 8-yard touchdown pass from Higgins to Hunter Lee, who made a sprawling catch in the end zone. Kansas, which twice failed going for it on fourth down, managed just a 39-yard field goal by Wyman with 2:20 left in the half.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 10-3 in the third quarter when Fischer finally connected from 39 yards but the Jayhawks rallied to tie it when Heaps connected with tight end Jimmay Mundine for a 22-yard touchdown with 9:54 remaining. Louisiana Tech looked to take the lead late in regulation but running back Kenneth Dixon (129 yards) fumbled at the Jayhawk 5, setting the stage for Kansas' game-winning drive.
