Mississippi State 51, Alcorn State 7: Dak Prescott threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in his first career start as the Bulldogs romped in their home opener.

Prescott played only the the first half and finished 12-for-19 for 174 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 20 yards and another score as Mississippi State (1-1) rolled to a 37-0 halftime lead and rebounded from last week's 21-3 season-opening loss to Oklahoma State.

Ashton Shumpert rushed for 98 yards and two scores and Derrick Milton scored a pair of touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who held the Braves to 35 total yards through three quarters - 21 coming on their first drive of the game.

Milton scored from 3 yards out and hauled in a 14-yard scoring pass from Prescott to give Mississippi State a 21-0 lead 3:26 into the second quarter. Prescott also tossed a 31-yard scoring strike to Jameon Lewis in the second quarter as part of an impressive performance in place of Tyler Russell (concussion).

Deontae Skinner's first career interception ended Alcorn State's first possession and the Braves subsequently went three-and-out on their next five drives en route to 30 total yards in the opening half. The Braves finally got on the board when John Gibbs connected with Tollete George on a 25-yard scoring pass with 11:42 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dan Mullen became the first coach at Mississippi State to reach 30 wins in his first five seasons. ... Braves RB Arnold Walker was limited to 23 yards on 10 carries, leaving him 123 yards shy of becoming the school's all-time leading rusher. ... Prescott threw for 174 yards in the first half as the Bulldogs rolled up 308 yards in the first 30 minutes - their second-highest first-half total in Mullen's tenure.
