No. 7 Texas A&M 65, Sam Houston State 28: Johnny Manziel was 29-of-42 passing for 423 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another score as the Aggies exploded for 35 third-quarter points to draw clear of the visiting Bearkats.

Tra Carson rushed for two touchdowns and Mike Evans had seven receptions for a career-high 155 yards for Texas A&M (2-0), which carries an eight-game winning streak into next Saturday’s showdown with No. 1 Alabama. The Aggies gained 714 total yards and remained unbeaten in 12 games against the Bearkats.

Timothy Flanders led Sam Houston State (1-1) with 19 carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yard score to cut the Bearkats’ deficit to 30-21 with 14:04 left in the third quarter. Texas A&M answered with five touchdowns in the quarter to secure the victory.

Manziel recorded his second career 400-yard passing game before freshman Kenny Hill came on to throw for 74 yards and a touchdown. The two quarterbacks completed passes to 11 different receivers, and the Aggies set a school record with 500 yards in the air.

Texas A&M, which improved to 62-5 against non-conference opponents at Kyle Field since 1985, matched a school record with 38 first downs. Brian Bell was 6-of-15 passing for 137 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Sam Houston State, an FCS team from the Southland Conference.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas A&M has scored at least 50 points in its first two games of the season for the first time since 1997. … The Bearkats were held to 14 first downs and fell to 3-27 against FBS programs in its history. … Ben Malena rushed nine times for 68 yards and a score for the Aggies, who have surpassed 400 yards in total offense in 14 straight games.
