Auburn 38, Arkansas State 9: Nick Marshall passed for two touchdowns in a breakout performance as the host Tigers gave coach Guz Malzahn a victory over his former team.

Marshall, who struggled in a season-opening win against Washington State, completed 10-of-17 passes for 147 yards and rushed for 53 more to lead a potent offense. Running backs Tre Mason, Corey Grant and Cameron Artis-Payne all ran for TDs as Auburn (2-0) churned up 301 yards on the ground.

The Red Wolves (1-1) entered with a nine-game winning streak that began under Malzahn but couldn't handle the step up in class after demolishing Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their season opener. Arkansas State rushed for 509 yards in that one, but the Tigers held the Wolves to 150 yards on 39 carries.

Marshall, who had only 99 yards through the air in the opener, hit Marcus Davis on an 18-yard scoring strike and Grant added a 17-yard TD run to bookend an Arkansas State field goal for a 14-3 lead after the first quarter. Marshall added to that lead by connecting with Sammie Coates for a 68-yard TD and a 21-3 halftime advantage.

Arkansas State quarterback Adam Kennedy (29-of-41, 272 yards) tried to rally the team in the second half, but despite putting together drives the Red Wolves never reached the end zone. Brian Davis kicked three field goals for Arkansas State.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Arkansas State, bedecked in all gray, was penalized 15 yards at the start of each half for failing to wear contrasting colors in its jerseys. … Auburn LB Kris Frost was ejected for targeting in the second half and will miss the first half of next week's game against Mississippi State. … Auburn improved to 18-0 all-time against teams from the Sun Belt Conference.
