Mississippi State 56, Jackson State 9: Tyler Russell threw a pair of touchdown passes and LaDarius Perkins rushed for two scores - all in the first half - as the host Bulldogs raced to a 35-0 lead and were never threatened.

Chad Bumphis and Marcus Green caught first-half touchdown passes and Darius Slay returned an interception 52 yards for another score as Mississippi State won its 12th straight non-conference game.

Matthew Wells added a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second half for the Bulldogs, who were 16th in the country with 19.7 points allowed per game in 2011.

Russell was 15-of-23 for 175 yards before turning over the reins to freshman Dak Prescott in the third quarter. Prescott scored on a 2-yard run to make it 42-6.

Preseason All-American selections Rico Richardson and E.J. Drewery combined for 11 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown for Jackson State, an FBS member which plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Bulldogs scored on four of their first five possessions and Slay's interception return made it 35-0 with 2:32 left before halftime.

Jackson State quarterback Dedric McDonald was 14-of-27 for 136 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown pass to Drewery with 45 seconds left in the first half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mississippi State won the only other meeting, 45-7 in 2009. ... Jackson State fell to 0-9 against FBS members. ... The Bulldogs opened 2011 with a 59-14 victory over Memphis. ... Mississippi State last returned two interceptions for touchdowns Oct. 24, 2009 against Florida.
