BYU 41, Georgia Tech 17: Freshman Jamaal Williams rushed for three scores and caught a touchdown pass, and the visiting Cougars stifled the Yellow Jackets’ running game to snap a two-game losing streak.

Williams scored on rushes of 6 yards in the first quarter, 1 yard in the second and 1 yard in the third. His final touchdown, a 39-yard run after catching Riley Nelson’s shovel pass on the opening play of the fourth, gave BYU (5-4) a 38-17 advantage. Williams finished with 107 yards rushing and 54 yards receiving.

Georgia Tech (3-5) entered the game ranked third in the nation with an average of 339 rushing yards. The BYU defense, ranked eighth nationally against the rush, held the Yellow Jackets to just 117 yards on the ground, 157 total yards and 0-for-10 on third down.

The Yellow Jackets pulled within 21-14 on Jamal Golden’s 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 4:31 left in the first half. Georgia Tech scored its first touchdown on Isaiah Johnson’s 22-yard interception return with 6:06 left in the first quarter.

Nelson finished 19-for-28 for 204 yards and rushed for a touchdown. Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington finished 1-for-5 passing for 9 yards and rushed five times for 10 yards.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Cougars had lost four of their previous six. The Yellow Jackets have lost four of their past five. … Golden’s kickoff return was Georgia Tech’s first for a touchdown since October 1998 against Maryland. … Washington surpassed 5,000 career yards of total offense.
