Clemson (4-1, 1-1) grabbed a 24-21 halftime edge after two see-saw quarters when Boyd hit Brandon Ford on a tight 4-yard pass just inside sideline with 23 seconds left in the half. Touchdown runs by Roderick McDowell and Andre Ellington pushed the margin to 38-21 with 3:07 remaining in the third.

After spotting the Eagles a 7-0 lead, the Tigers reeled off 17 unanswered points as Boyd ran for a 6-yard score and threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Sam Cooper. Boyd's 35-yard touchdown toss to Hopkins early in the fourth brought the lead back to 17 at 45-28.

Andre Williams sparked Boston College's ground game – which entered ranked 114th – with a 30-yard scoring run less than five minutes into the game, but the Eagles managed only 21 rushing yards thereafter.
