Marcus Mariota threw two touchdown passes and the defense of No. 3 Oregon shut down No. 21 Arizona as the host Ducks were victorious in the Pac-12 opener for both squads.

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu had two of Oregon’s four interceptions and returned one of them 54 yards for a touchdown and Troy Hill also had a 33-yard scoring interception as the Ducks (4-0) stymied the Wildcats’ high-flying attack. Oregon forced five turnovers and thwarted Arizona (3-1) in all six trips inside the Ducks’ 20-yard line.

Arizona totaled 329 yards while losing for the first time under coach Rich Rodriguez. The Wildcats were averaging 46.3 points and 604.7 yards entering the contest but quarterback Matt Scott was intercepted three times before exiting in the fourth quarter with 195 passing yards.

Oregon led 13-0 at halftime and increased the lead to 21 when Colt Lyerla scored on a 1-yard run and the Ducks converted a two-point pass on a trick play with holder/punter Jackson Rice completing the pass to kicker Rob Beard. Mariota added a 55-yard scoring pass to Bralon Addison five minutes later to give the Ducks a 28-0 lead.

Bryan Bennett had an 8-yard rushing score in the final quarter between the interceptions by Ekpre-Olomu and Hill as the Ducks notched their seventh straight victory dating back to last season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Oregon has won 16 of the past 19 meetings with Arizona, including nine of the last 10 in Eugene. … Arizona had won five straight games dating back to last season before being shut out by the Ducks for the first time since 1964. It also was the first time the Ducks have blanked a Pac-12 opponent since 2003. … Mariota was 20-of-35 passing for 263 yards. The redshirt freshman has 10 touchdown passes in four games.
