Brandon Jones had a fourth-quarter interception return and Brandon Coleman added a touchdown reception as the visiting Scarlet Knights handed the Green Wave their 11th consecutive loss.

Jawan Jamison rushed for 112 yards and scored on a 46-yard run in the second quarter as Rutgers was victorious in Kyle Flood's debut as coach.

Rutgers was leading 10-6 in the fourth quarter when Jones jumped a route to intercept a pass by Tulane’s Ryan Griffin and returned it 14 yards for a touchdown.

The Scarlet Knights increased the lead to 24-6 midway through the quarter when Gary Nova connected with Coleman on a 43-yard scoring play.

Tulane also broke in a new coach in former New Orleans Saints assistant Curtis Johnson and the Green Wave pulled within 24-12 with 5:07 to play on a 10-yard pass from Griffin to Robert Kelley.

Jamison’s touchdown scamper with 10:20 left in the first half represented the game’s first points. The Scarlet Knights led 10-3 at halftime.

Cairo Santos booted a 32-yard field goal eight seconds into the final quarter before Jones made the game’s biggest play nearly three minutes later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rutgers arrived in New Orleans for the game earlier Friday than host Tulane. The Green Wave had evacuated to Birmingham, Ala., because of Hurricane Isaac and bused back Friday afternoon. Rutgers landed Friday morning. … The Scarlet Knights outrushed Tulane 151-8. … The teams combined for 20 penalties – Tulane was flagged 11 times for 120 yards and Rutgers had nine penalties for 72 yards … The Green Wave were without two of their best players – RB Orleans Darkwa (knee) and ILB Trent Mackey (arrested on armed robbery charge).
