Kansas State 51, Missouri State 9:
John Hubert rushed for 152 yards and exploded for a 95-yard scoring run as one of six Kansas State second-half touchdowns as the No. 21 Wildcats pulled away from the visiting Bears.

Hubert broke through the line of scrimmage for the second-longest run in school history to help the Wildcats squash an upset bid by Missouri State.

The contest was tied 9-9 midway through the third quarter before Kansas State awoke from its slumber.

Collin Klein hit Tramaine Thompson on an 18-yard scoring midway through the third to put the Wildcats ahead. Braden Wilson scored from 4 yards out to start a 35-point final quarter uprising before Hubert’s electric run gave Kansas State a 21-point advantage. The dash fell 1 yard shy of the school record 96-yard scoring run by Gerald Hackney in 1948 against Kansas.

Chris Harper caught a 1-yard scoring pass from Klein with 10:03 to play to increase the lead to 37-9 and Daniel Sams added a 46-yard scoring run with 3:43 left. Thompson returned a punt 89 yards for a score with 1:56 remaining.

Kansas State’s Anthony Cantele and Missouri State’s Austin Witmer traded field goals over the first 35-plus minutes.

Cantele booted field goals of 23, 19 and 25 yards as the Wildcats took a 9-6 halftime lead. Witmer kicked first-half field goals of 24 and 35 yards and then tied the game at 9-9 on a 26-yard field goal with 10:43 left in the third quarter.

Missouri transfer Ashton Glaser completed 22-of-44 passes for 249 yards for the Bears but couldn’t get the ball in the Kansas State end zone.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The 100-yard rushing effort is the fourth of Hubert’s career. … The Bears fell to 1-27 all-time against major-college programs. … Klein passed for 169 yards and rushed for 59. … Keeping it close into the fourth quarter was a step up for Missouri State, which was never in the games last season when it lost 51-7 to Arkansas and 56-7 to Oregon.
