C.J. Anderson scored three touchdowns to help California to a 47-38 victory over host Arizona State on Friday.

Anderson rushed for two touchdowns and scored on a 74-yard pass from Zach Maynard as the Golden Bears (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12 North) clinched a winning season while sending the Sun Devils (6-6, 4-4) to their fourth straight loss.

Arizona State was eliminated from the Pac-12 South Division race earlier Friday when Utah lost to Colorado and made UCLA the division champion.

The two teams combined for 961 yards - 484 by California and 477 by Arizona State.

Anderson’s second touchdown - a 3-yard run - gave California the lead for good at 34-31 with 9:02 left in the third quarter. He caught a short pass from a scrambling Zach Maynard and turned it into the 74-yard score to give the Golden Bears a 10-point lead six minutes later.

Giorgio Tavecchio kicked four field goals and Isi Sofele rushed for 145 yards for the Golden Bears.

Arizona State’s Cameron Marshall rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and tied the school record of 18 single-season rushing scores shared by Woody Green (1972) and Terry Battle (1996).

Sun Devils quarterback Brock Osweiler passed for 264 yards and three touchdowns.

Anderson’s first rushing touchdown gave Cal a 24-14 lead and the advantage grew to 13 points on Tavecchio’s 48-yard field goal with 2:59 left in the first half.

But Osweiler tossed touchdown passes of 35 yards to Rashad Ross and 4 yards to Trevor Kohl in a span of 29 seconds as Arizona State took a 28-27 halftime lead.
