Dustin Hopkins missed a potential game-winning 42-yard field goal in the final seconds and Virginia kept its ACC title hopes intact with a 14-13 victory over No. 22 Florida State on Saturday.

Hopkins’ miss wide left capped a wild sequence. The Seminoles benefited from a video replay reversal that pulled the Cavaliers (8-3, 5-2 ACC) back onto the field after nearly everyone in the building thought the game was over.

Out of timeouts, the Seminoles (7-4, 5-3 ACC) were trying to move into better field position for a go-ahead field goal when Bert Reed hauled in a 5-yard catch at the Cavaliers' 30-yard line. He stayed in bounds, however, and time expired.

The Cavaliers were in the tunnel celebrating what they thought was their first win in nine tries in Tallahassee when the officials decided to review the play. After a delay of more than four minutes, it was ruled incomplete, and Florida State had new life. A penalty on Virginia moved the ball to the 25, but Hopkins’ kick sailed wide left. It was just his fourth miss in 24 tries this season.

The loss ended the Seminoles’ five-game winning streak.

Virginia, which won only four games in Mike London’s first season, can advance to its first ACC title game with a win over rival Virginia Tech next week.

The Cavaliers trailed 13-7 with less than two minutes left, but Michael Rocco led them 87 yards in five plays. Kevin Parks' 10-yard touchdown run gave the Cavaliers a 14-13 lead with 1:16 to play.
