Virginia beat Duke for the first time since 2007 and kept its ACC title hopes alive with a 31-21 home win.
Michael Rocco threw for two touchdowns and Chase Minnifield returned an interception 54 yards for a score. UVA grabbed the lead for good on Perry Jones’ 1-yard leaping touchdown run in the third quarter.
The Cavaliers (7-3, 4-2 ACC) can win the Coastal Division by beating Florida State and Virginia Tech the next two weeks.
Duke (3-7, 1-5) dropped its fifth straight and was eliminated from bowl consideration. The already-thin Blue Devils lost six players to injury during the game.
Blue Devils wideout Donovan Varner caught seven balls, including a 64-yard touchdown, and became the school’s alltime leader in receptions with 194, passing Clarkston Hines (189).
Sean Renfree threw for 303 yards, but Duke could not run the ball, averaging 1.2 yards a carry.
