Where: Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia
Temperature: 41°

Quarterback Logan Thomas had five touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 32 seconds left in the third quarter, to lead No. 9 Virginia Tech to a critical 37-26 victory over No. 19 Georgia Tech on Thursday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Thomas passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more for the Hokies (9-1, 5-1 ACC), who can now clinch the ACC Coastal Division with a victory and a Virginia loss. The two in-state rivals will play each other in the season finale on Nov. 26.

Georgia Tech (7-3, 4-3 ACC), meanwhile, has been eliminated from the Coastal race.

Thomas completed 7 of 13 passes for 209 yards and three TDs for the Hokies, who improved to 18-5 all-time in Thursday night games. David Wilson finished with a game-high 169 yards on 23 carries, his seventh straight 100-yard rushing game.

Virginia Tech fell behind 26-21 after Tevin Washington scored the second of his two third-quarter touchdowns with 4:29 left. But the Hokies responded on the ensuing possession behind Thomas, whose 12-yard rushing TD put them back ahead 27-26.

The Hokies extended the advantage to 34-26 early in the fourth when Thomas found Chris Drager on a 14-yard strike before Cody Journell’s 23-yard field goal put the game out of reach.

Since dropping its ACC opener against No. 9 Clemson, the Hokies have won five straight games, including three on the road.

Georgia Tech, which fell to 7-5 against ranked opponents under head coach Paul Johnson, hasn’t fared nearly as well. The Yellow Jackets have lost three of four after a 6-0 start.

Virginia Tech outgained the Yellow Jackets 476-340 and converted 10 of 16 third downs.
