No. 14 Virginia Tech overcame a sluggish first half and a refreshed Boston College defense for a 30-14 home win.

David Wilson’s 42-yard touchdown run, off a nifty option toss from Logan Thomas, put the Hokies (7-1, 3-1 ACC) ahead for good 13-7 early in the third quarter. Thomas’ 20-yard strike to Marcus Davis extended the lead on their next possession.

Coming off its bye, Boston College (1-6, 0-4 ACC) capitalized on an early shanked punt to grab a 7-0 lead. Quarterback Chase Rettig capped a 35-yard drive with a fake handoff and 2-yard scoring run.

The Hokies, who had scored 38 in each of their previous two games, trailed 7-6 at halftime. But Wilson got untracked and finished with 134 yards on 17 carries, his seventh 100-yard game this year. Thomas hit 22 of 36 throws for 268 yards.

Virginia Tech improved to 14-6 all-time against the Eagles.
