Joe Paterno was welcomed back to the sideline with solid performances from his platooning quarterbacks, as Matthew McGloin and Rob Bolden combined for four touchdown passes in Penn State's 34-6 triumph over visiting Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

After squeaking past Temple last week, the Nittany Lions (3-1) rebounded strongly to earn the 404th career victory for Paterno, who coached the first three games from the press box while recovering from injuries sustained in an August practice mishap.

Bolden started and guided Penn State to a field goal among three drives before McGloin took over and delivered two second-quarter scores. His 27-yard touchdown pass to Joe Suhey was Penn State's first through the air this season.

McGloin also found Derek Moye on a 5-yarder to give Penn State a 17-0 halftime lead.

The Nittany Lions entered as one of only three FBS teams to go their first three games without a touchdown pass and ranked 106th in passing (158 yards per game).

Kody Fulkerson kicked a pair of short field goals for the Eagles (2-2), who gained just 68 yards on 43 carries against a stingy Penn State defense.

Paterno returned to the press box for the second half and saw Bolden hit Devon Smith for a 71-yard score on the first possession – though Smith did almost all of the work after the catch. McGloin (14 of 19, 219 yards) and Moye connected on a 20-yard score to make it 31-0.

Bolden finished 7 of 13 for 115 yards while Smith had four catches for 122 yards.
