Denard Robinson struggled through the air but did most of his damage on the ground, rushing for a game-high 198 yards and a touchdown as host Michigan defeated Eastern Michigan 31-3 on Saturday.

Robinson, who threw three second-half touchdown passes in Michigan’s 35-31 come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame last week, completed just 7-of-18 passes for 95 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against the Eagles.

Michigan fell behind 3-0 early in the second quarter but took a 14-3 lead into halftime behind Robinson, who completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Koger and added an 11-yard TD run late in the half.

Robinson’s 19-yard touchdown pass to Drew Dileo with 1:05 left in the third quarter helped the Wolverines extend their lead to 28-3.

Michigan improved to 29-1 all-time against current MAC teams and defeated the Eagles for the 10th time in as many tries. The Wolverines are also 3-0 for the third straight year.

The loss spoiled the homecoming for Eastern Michigan head coach Ron English, who served on Michigan’s defensive staff from 2003 to 2007. English, now in his third season as Eagles coach, is trying to lead Eastern Michigan (2-1) to its first winning season since 1995.

Michigan outgained the Eagles 471-236 and had five scoring drives of 75 yards or more.

Vincent Smith had 118 rushing yards on nine carries for the Wolverines. Fitzgerald Toussaint added 46 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Javonti Greene had 80 yards on 21 carries for Eastern Michigan, who avoided a shutout against Michigan for just the fourth time in the series' history.
