Mitch Ewald's 31-yard field goal in overtime gave Indiana a 34-31 win over Purdue in a Big Ten game on Saturday. Ewald, who tied the game with a 27-yard field goal with nine seconds left in regulation, gave the Hoosiers their first Big Ten win of the season and helped Indiana break a 12-game conference losing streak.

Purdue got the ball first in overtime and drove to Indiana's 8-yard line, but linebacker Mike Thomas intercepted Rob Henry's pass. Ben Chappell completed a 14-yard pass to Ted Bolser moving the ball to Purdue's 11. After two running plays lost yardage, Ewald was called upon and kicked Indiana (5-7, 1-7) to victory.

Purdue (4-8, 2-6 Big Ten) had taken the lead on Carson Wiggs' 36-yard field goal with 6:17 to play in the fourth quarter.

Chappell, playing the final game of his outstanding career, completed 31 of 50 passes for 330 and three touchdowns, all to Tandon Doss.

Henry was 16 of 30 for 252 yards and three touchdowns, but threw the costly interception in overtime. Henry opened Purdue's scoring with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Antavian Edison. Trea Burgess' 1-yard run tied the game, but Henry hit Dan Dierking for a 2-yard score late in the first quarter.

Keith Carlos' 1-yard run gave Purdue a 21-7 lead before Chappell's 4-yard touchdown pass to Doss cut the lead to 21-14 at halftime. A 6-yard pass from Chappell to Doss early in the third quarter tied the game. Henry's 52-yard scoring pass to Cortez Smith put Purdue back in the lead with 5:30 to play in the third quarter.

Chappell's 3-yard pass to Doss tied the game before Wiggs put Purdue back in the lead.
