No. 17 Virginia Tech moved one step closer to the ACC Championship Game with a 26-10 win at North Carolina on Saturday.
The Hokies (8-2, 6-0), who have won eight straight, can clinch the Coastal Division by winning at Miami next week.
The Tar Heels (6-4, 3-3) grabbed a 7-0 lead on Anthony Elzy’s 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Hokies hung in thanks to three Chris Hazley field goals, including a 52-yarder, and trailed 10-9 at the break.
Tyrod Taylor’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Davis put Virginia Tech ahead for good early in the third quarter. Taylor hit Davis with a 13-yard scoring strike later in the period.
Taylor finished 13-of-28 for 247 yards. Darren Evans ran for 91 yards on 14 carries.
Elzy led North Carolina with 81 yards on 17 carries. T.J. Yates threw for 196 yards, but was sacked three times and intercepted four times by the Hokies.
