Nathan Scheelhaase completed 16 of 20 passes for 195 yards and four touchdowns and added 119 yards on 21 carries as Illinois dominated Purdue 44-10 on Saturday.
Mikel LeShoure rushed for two touchdowns and caught another for the Fighting Illini, which held the Boilermakers under 100 yards until the fourth quarter. Illinois (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) needs one more win to become bowl eligible.
Scheelhaase got it started in the first quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Jenkins. The Illini got the ball back right away on an onside kick. LeShoure's 1-yard touchdown run on fourth down made it 14-0.
Illinois added a field goal to take a 17-0 lead into the half. The Illini pulled away in the third quarter with touchdowns on its first three possession. Scheelhaase hit LeShoure with a 24-yard scoring pass on the first drive and later handed it to his running back for a 1-yard burst to push it to 31-0.
Purdue (4-4, 2-2), which suffered a 49-0 loss to Ohio State last weekend, avoided back-to-back shutouts with 10 fourth-quarter points.
