It’s been nearly 30 years since Wake Forest played in Blacksburg, Va., and the Demon Deacons probably wouldn’t mind another 30 before ever venturing back.
Host Virginia Tech wasted little time in jumping all over the overmatched visitors, rolling to easy 52-21 decision at Lane Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Hokies accounted for 49 points and 434 of their 605 yards of total offense before halftime in breezing to their fifth consecutive victory.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, while tailback Darren Evans rushed for three scores before the break as Virginia Tech delivered a rude welcome to its guests visiting Blacksburg for the first time since 1983.
Taylor finished the day 19 of 27 for 292 yards and added 29 yards rushing, while Evans totaled 52 yards on 12 carries.
Josh Harris rumbled for 241 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries for Wake Forest, which has now lost five consecutive games. The Demon Deacons managed just 12 yards passing and were forced to punt six times in the decisive first half.
The teams combined for 47 first downs and 939 yards of total offense.
