Georgia Tech followed up a fourth-quarter goal-line stand with a 97-yard scoring drive to clinch a 33-21 ACC victory over Virginia on Saturday at Boddy Dodd Stadium in Atlanta.

Anthony Allen rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns, including an eight-yard burst up the middle that capped the big drive and put the Yellow Jackets up 19 with five minutes to play.

In his first season as Georgia Tech's defensive coordinator, Al Groh's unit helped the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-2 and 3-1 in the ACC with a win over Virginia, the team Groh coached for the last nine years.

The Yellow Jackets (4-2, 3-1 ACC) built a 13-7 halftime lead on a short touchdown run by Joshua Nesbitt with 36 seconds left in the second quarter.

Allen scored twice in the third quarter to help extend the Jackets' lead to 23-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

Virginia drove inside the Georgia Tech 10 early in the fourth quarter, but failed to score on four tries and turned the ball over to the Jackets on downs. Georgia Tech marched 97 yards in 11 plays, taking six minutes off the clock.

Georgia Tech steps out of conference to face Middle Tennessee next week. Virginia (2-3, 0-2) will try to rebound at home against North Carolina on Oct. 16.
