Danny O’Brien threw two touchdowns, Da'Rel Scott added a pair of scores and Maryland cruised to a 42-28 victory over Florida International on Saturday.

Tony Logan returned a punt 85 yards for Maryland (3-1), which bounced back from last week’s 31-17 loss to West Virginia by beating a FIU team that has been very competitive despite its 0-3 record.

Wesley Carroll tossed two touchdown passes for the Golden Panthers, who nearly upset Texas A&M last week and pulled to within 35-28 of Maryland on a 1-yard touchdown run from Darriet Perry with 4:21 left.

But Davin Meggett ended any hopes of a comeback just 10 seconds later with a 76-yard scamper that restored the Terrapins’ 14-point lead.

O’Brien’s 68-yard touchdown pass to Torrey Smith with 3:32 left in the third snapped a 21-21 tie and Scott’s 9-yard score made it 35-21 with 13:48 left in the fourth.

O'Brien finished 18 of 27 for 250 yards.
