Kentucky running back Derrick Locke rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Mike Hartline threw for two more as the Wildcats crushed Akron 47-10. Saturday in Lexington.
Hartline hooked up with receivers Randall Cobb and Chris Matthews for a pair of 13-yard scores in the second quarter and Locke broke touchdown runs of 5 and 56 yards in the third period as the undefeated Wildcats pulled away from the winless Zips.
Locke rolled up 166 yards on 17 carries and Hartline completed 21 of his 29 passes for 250 yards and no interceptions. Neither team committed a turnover in the game.
Akron, which was held to only 172 yards on the night, scored its lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Matt Rodgers hit Antoine Russell on a 30-yard strike. After having a pair of 100-yard rushers last week, the Zips gained just 67 yards on the ground against the Wildcats.
Akron quarterback Patrick Nicely completed 4 of 19 passes for 57 yards.
