Eddie Wide rushed for 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Terrance Cain added a pair of passing scores as No. 20 Utah rolled Nevada-Las Vegas 38-10 in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams Saturday.
Jeremy Brooks finished with four catches for 77 yards and a touchdown and Shaky Smithson chipped in a 55-yard touchdown catch and a 77-yard punt return for the Utes (2-0), who ran their home winning streak to 19 games.
Utah took a 17-3 lead into the half after breaking out for a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter. Wide accounted for the first with a three-yard scoring burst and Cain hit Brooks with 37 seconds left in the half for a 20-yard score to make it a two-touchdown edge.
The Utes, who will join the Pac-10 next season, wasted no time piling on after the break, with Cain hitting Smithson on the first possession. UNLV (0-2) got its first touchdown when it recovered a blocked punt for a score, but Utah answered when Smithson returned a punt 77 yards for another touchdown four minutes later to make it 31-10.
Wide put it away with a 13-yard scoring burst early in the fourth.
Omar Clayton finished 18-of-37 for 217 yards and Michael Johnson caught seven passes for 94 yards for the Rebels, who fell to 0-8 at Utah.
