Nate Mason poured in 33 points, and Minnesota used a hot start to end a nine-game losing streak with an 86-82 win over Iowa on Wednesday in Big Ten play at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

Jordan Murphy added 10 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks for the Golden Gophers (15-15, 4-13 Big Ten), who won for the first time since Jan. 15.

Isaiah Moss scored 32 points and fueled a late Iowa push, and Ryan Kriener added a season-high 15 points off the bench for the Hawkeyes (12-18, 3-14), who have lost six in a row.

Minnesota stormed out to a 21-2 lead, scoring 19 straight points during the early run. Dupree McBrayer and Jamir Harris each hit 3-pointers, and Murphy had a dunk during the Gophers' hot start.

The Hawkeyes made one of their first eight shots and turned it over eight times in the first nine minutes of the game. Iowa finally got going, but still trailed 31-19 at halftime. Mason had 14 of his points in the first half.

Iowa tried to climb back into the game in the second half and cut Minnesota's lead to single digits on a 3-pointer from Moss with 14:20 to play.

The Hawkeyes stayed within striking distance until late in the game, but never caught up and fell to 1-9 on the road in Big Ten play this season.

Moss hit two 3-pointers in the final two minutes, but Mason hit a pair of free throws and McBrayer converted a three-point play with a dunk and free throw to help seal the win for the Gophers.

After a promising start to the season, the Gophers have seen their roster depleted by injuries and off-the-court trouble. Sophomore small forward Amir Coffey will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, and senior center Reggie Lynch was expelled from the university following sexual assault allegations.

Minnesota wraps up the regular season Saturday at Purdue. Iowa returns home to host Northwestern on Sunday.
