Sophomore guard Skylar Mays scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half to help LSU coast to an 84-60 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday night in Baton Rouge, La.

Senior forward Duop Reath contributed 15 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers (4-2). Junior guard Daryl Edwards also had 15 points for LSU, which committed only seven turnovers.

Senior guard Matthew Butler scored 17 points and junior guard Darius Thompson added 16 for the Skyhawks (1-6). The loss was the fourth in a row for UT Martin, which committed 18 turnovers leading to 29 LSU points.

The Tigers racked up 13 steals with sophomore forward Wayde Sims and freshman guard Tremont Waters each collecting four, and freshman guard Brandon Rachal had three.

The Skyhawks were within 52-40 after a 3-pointer by Thompson with 12:56 remaining, but LSU answered with a 10-2 burst. Waters capped it with a 3-pointer to make it 62-42 with 9:17 left.

The Tigers' largest lead was at 75-51 on senior guard Randy Onwuasor's three-point play with 4:33 to go.

Mays made four 3-pointers during a 16-point half to help LSU build a 41-24 halftime advantage.

The Skyhawks led 9-4 four-plus minutes into the game before the Tigers began to connect. Mays culminated a 10-0 run with a basket to give LSU a 23-12 edge with 6:26 left in the half and later knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a 13-point lead.

Rachal converted back-to-back layups to give the Tigers a 33-16 advantage with 3:33 left in the half. Mays drained another 3-pointer to make it an 18-point margin with 2:35 to go before hitting another with four seconds remaining to provide the Tigers with the 17-point cushion at the break.
