ShawnDre’ Jones scored 22 points and made a career-best six 3-point baskets and Deion Taylor recorded a pivotal blocked shot as the host Spiders completed a regular-season sweep of the Rams for the first time since 2000-01.

Terry Allen had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Kendall Anthony contributed 13 points, seven assists and four steals as Richmond (16-12, 9-6 Atlantic 10) won for the fourth time in five games. T.J. Cline added 11 points as Spiders coach Chris Mooney recorded his 200th career victory.

Treveon Graham had 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Rams (21-7, 11-4) recovered from a 16-point second-half deficit before losing and falling into a four-way tie for first place. JeQuan Lewis had 15 points and eight rebounds but VCU shot just 32.8 percent from the field and 3-of-19 from 3-point range.

VCU continued the momentum from its rally in the first overtime and led 58-55 after two free throws by Melvin Johnson with seven seconds left before Jones split a pair for Richmond, the rebound of the second went out-of-bounds off a Rams’ player and Cline got open for a layup at the buzzer to force a second extra session. Allen’s basket gave Richmond a 60-59 lead early in the second overtime and the lead reached four before VCU rallied and had a chance to tie it again, but Graham’s shot was blocked by Taylor with a second left and Allen made two clinching free throws.

The Rams were within eight early in the second half before Richmond scored eight straight to expand the lead to 40-24 with 17:03 to play. VCU rallied to within 52-49 on Johnson’s 3-pointer with 32 seconds remaining and Graham made a 3-pointer with 3.5 seconds left to tie it before Anthony last-second 3-pointer bounced on the rim three times before falling off.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jones made two 3-pointers during a 10-0 burst that saw Richmond take a 25-10 lead with 8:37 left in the first half and the Spiders led 29-20 at the break. … Graham had just two first-half points and he finished 5-of-19 from the field. … The Spiders committed 18 turnovers and were 9-of-23 from 3-point range.
