TaShawn Thomas had 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Sooners knocked off the visiting Cyclones to take over second place in the Big 12.

Isaiah Cousins had 19 points and Buddy Hield added 17 points for Oklahoma (17-7, 8-4), which has won five straight. Ryan Spangler added 14 points and 12 rebounds and Frank Booker hit four 3-pointers off the bench for 14 points.

Dustin Hogue hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range on the way to 19 points for Iowa State (17-6, 7-4). Jameel McKay, who made his second straight start, added 16 points and nine rebounds and Naz Long chipped in 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the arc.

The Cyclones hit nine of their first 12 3-pointers, the last by Georges Niang for a 40-30 lead with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first half. Oklahoma answered with a 16-6 run - including the last seven points of the half on Hield's layup, fast-break assist to Jordan Woodard and 3-pointer - to send the game to halftime tied at 46.

Oklahoma scored the first six points of the second half and after Iowa State tied it at 54 on Long's 3-pointer got a combined 13 points from Thomas and Hield during another 16-6 scoring spree to build a 70-60 lead with less than 11 minutes left. Booker's 3-pointer six minutes later pushed the Oklahoma lead to 88-68 before Thomas finished his night with two big dunks.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Iowa State has lost four straight road games. ... The Cyclones went 7-of-14 at the foul line while Oklahoma did not attempt free throws until the final 6 1/2 minutes, finishing 6-of-6. ... Oklahoma forced 14 turnovers, blocked six shots and outrebounded Iowa State 38-36.
