No. 20 Ohio State 79, Rutgers 60: D’Angelo Russell had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as the visiting Buckeyes knocked off the Scarlet Knights in Big Ten play.

Jae’Sean Tate matched his season high of 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting as Ohio State (18-6, 7-4) won for the fourth time in five games. Keita Bates-Diop contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

Bishop Daniels scored 17 points to lead Rutgers (10-15, 2-10), which lost its eighth consecutive game. Junior Etou had 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for the Scarlet Knights, who shot just 29 percent from the field and 4-of-23 from 3-point range.

The Buckeyes jumped out strong at the start and Russell scored 12 of Ohio State’s first 24 points while taking a 12-point lead with 7:14 left in the first half. Russell’s 3-pointer capped a 9-0 burst and Bates-Diop drained a 3-pointer to make it a 21-point margin with 3:18 remaining before the Buckeyes settled for a 44-26 lead at the break.

Ohio State’s lead was at 25 points on Tate’s layup with 15:25 remaining before the Scarlet Knights used an 11-2 burst to pull within 60-44 with 12:05 to play. The Buckeyes answered with an 8-2 run and cruised to the finish.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Russell has scored 20 or more points in eight of the last 10 games. … Rutgers G Myles Mack made his 100th career start but had just eight points on 3-of-10 shooting. … Buckeyes F Sam Thompson had one block to raise his career total to 100.
