Iowa 71, No. 16 Maryland 55: Aaron White scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the host Hawkeyes came out fast and held on to top the Terrapins.

Adam Woodbury finished with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Peter Jok chipped in 15 for Iowa (15-8, 6-4 Big Ten), which shot a season-high 64.3 percent after shooting 62.7 percent in a win at Michigan on Thursday. Mike Gesell handed out a career-high nine assists and Gabriel Olaseni chipped in seven points on 3-of-3 shooting off the bench.

Melo Trimble bounced back from a pair of rocky shooting efforts to score 20 points for Maryland (19-5, 7-4), which was outrebounded 30-19. Dez Wells was the only other Terrapin to reach double figures with 12 points.

Iowa scored the game's first seven points and held a commanding 24-5 lead with eight minutes left in the first half. Woodbury and Gesell had back-to-back baskets to end the stanza and give the hosts a 40-17 advantage and the margin was 22 points after White's layup with just under 16 minutes left in the game.

Evan Smotrycz and Richaud Pack hit 3-pointers and Dion Wiley had a four-point play to spark a run that pulled Maryland within 53-38 midway through the second half, but a technical foul on Terrapins head coach Mark Turgeon ended that surge and Iowa rebuilt its lead to 20 on Jarrod Uthoff's basket with a little over five minutes to go. The closest Maryland could get down the stretch was 12 as it fell for the third time in five games following a 5-1 start in the Big Ten.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Trimble had missed all 13 of his shots over the previous two games before ending his drought and Maryland's slow start with a basket roughly five minutes in. ... The Terrapins' bench was 3-for-21 from the field. ... Iowa is 14-1 when scoring 64 points or more.
