No. 23 SMU 68, Tulsa 57: Nic Moore had 23 points as the visiting Mustangs handed the Golden Hurricane their first American Athletic Conference loss.

Cannen Cunningham added a season-high 16 points off the bench for SMU (19-5, 10-2 AAC), which has won 17 of its last 19 games. The Mustangs, who also received 13 points and 13 rebounds from Yanick Moreira, did not trail over the game’s final 37:19 and improved to 17-1 when holding opponents to 61 or fewer points.

James Woodard had 15 points, including five 3-pointers, to pace Tulsa (17-6, 10-1), which had won 21 consecutive conference games and 12 straight overall. D’Andre Wright and Shaquille Harrison chipped in 10 points apiece and a combined 14 rebounds for the Golden Hurricane, who shot a season-worst 28.3 percent from the field, including 9-of-28 from 3-point range, and a combined 8-of-28 from Woodard and Harrison – the team’s leading scorers.

Tulsa, which trailed 34-28 at the half, pulled even at 43 on an acrobatic jumper from Rashad Smith with 12 minutes remaining, but Cunningham and Moore combined to score 13 during the ensuing 15-0 run for the Mustangs to break the contest open. The Golden Hurricane, meanwhile, went nearly 7½ minutes without scoring and were only able to get as close as 10 in the final four minutes.

Tulsa scored the first four points, but it proved to be the Golden Hurricane’s only lead of the night as SMU quickly responded with an 8-0 run. The Mustangs led 16-11, 23-18 and 30-28 before scoring the final four points to take the six-point lead into the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Tulsa has lost 27 straight games against ranked opponents. … SMU, which was coming off a 62-54 home loss Thursday to Cincinnati, has followed each of its previous two defeats with eight-game winning streaks. … The rematch between the two teams will close out the regular season March 8 in Dallas.
