BYU 79, Stanford 77: Tyler Haws scored 24 points and Kyle Collinsworth added 15 as part of a double-double as the host Cougars withstood a furious rally for the nonconference win.

Collinsworth added 10 rebounds and seven assists while Chase Fischer scored 16 as BYU (9-3) built a 13-point lead with 3:42 to play. The Cougars, however, managed just two free throws the rest of the way and barely held on as Stanford star guard Chasson Randle missed an open 3-pointer with six seconds left and another long runner at the buzzer.

Randle finished with 24 points and five assists for Stanford (6-3) which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Stefan Nastic added 20 points and nine rebounds and Reid Travis scored a career-high 15 points for the Cardinal.

BYU opened a 32-22 lead with 4:45 left in the first half but the Cardinal got seven points from Randle in a 13-2 run to take a brief lead before trailing 36-35 at the break. Roscoe Allen's 3-pointer gave Stanford a 44-43 lead with 15:48 to play but the Cougars responded with a 15-5 spurt to claim a 58-49 advantage.

Nastic's foul-line jumper cut the deficit to 61-57 with 7:43 left but the high-octane Cougars went on another run capped by Fischer's layup to extend the lead to 72-59 with 4:46 to play. Randle scored six points in the Cardinal's game-ending 13-2 run, aided by four missed free throws by BYU.
